National
Folk Festival
We have regularly run dances, balls, and classes for heritage
dancing at this annual festival in Canberra.
Melbourne Colonial Dancers Band
Our group of musicians who play for our monthly Live Music
Nights, some balls, and other gigs.
As well as the functions organized by the Melbourne Colonial Dancers, there are several other balls held, in Melbourne each year, that are put on by similar organizations. Information about such functions can be found through the Links page.
Folk Festivals are held throughout the country all throughout the year and Colonial dancing does feature at some of these festivals. The annual folk festival at Nariel (in North-Eastern Victoria) that begins soon after Christmas and continues into the New Year, is an example.
The National Folk festival is held each year at Easter time in Canberra. There is at least one Colonial Ball at this festival. Many people in the Colonial dance scene do go to these festivals. They know that plenty of their friends will be there when they arrive. One of the most valuable aspects of Colonial dancing is in the camaraderie. All ages are welcome!

meeting others so effortless,
and there is nothing like...
couples dances for making friends..."
